Asics Gel-Resolution 9 and Discontinuation
The Gel-Resolution 9 was in production for about two years (2023โ2025). During that time, it became a favorite among many players who value support and durability. For a relatively compact shoe, it offered some of the best lateral support and stability available across tennis shoe models. The Gel-Resolution 9 was also made from high-quality rubber and held up well against aggressive playing styles without tearing.
In 2025, Asics released its successor, the Gel-Resolution X, which was different in many ways from the previous 9th-generation model. The new X featured a redesigned sole, more cushioning, and an overall bulkier build. For me and many other Gel-Resolution 9 users, this change felt too drastic, altering the fit and feel that made the previous model so popular.
Since the discontinuation of the Gel-Resolution 9, many players, myself included, have been trying to find a good alternative, and that is what inspired me to write this article.
Best Asics Gel-Resolution 9 Alternatives
Iโll keep this list updated with the best alternatives I come across in my tennis shoe reviews.
Diadora Blushield Torneo 3
Pros & Cons
Details
Model Name: Diadora Blushield Torneo 3
Price: $150.00
Court Type: Hard
Summary
For me, the Diadora Blushield Torneo 3 actually felt even better than the ASICS Gel-Resolution 9 I had played in for the past three years. It feels more agile and comfortable while still delivering most of the same stability and support that made the Gel-Resolution 9 so good.
Priced at $150, the Torneo 3 comes in at exactly the same cost as the Gel-Resolution 9, making it a direct value-for-value alternative.
If youโre used to the Gel-Resolution 9, I highly recommend giving this model a try.
Fit
This model was a real surprise for me. At first glance, they look like fairly basic tennis shoes, but the moment I tried them on, they felt incredibly comfortable and smooth. The fit was very close to the Gel-Resolution 9, but slightly softer, in a good way. With the Torneo 3, the shoe seems to adapt much better to the shape of my foot and flexes just right while playing.
Very aggressive or heavier players might find the Torneo 3 a bit too soft, but I think most Gel-Resolution 9 users will really enjoy this model.
Comfort and Breathability
Compared to the Gel-Resolution 9, the Torneo 3 offers noticeably better comfort. The shoe is slightly more padded, and the materials feel smoother. Even during long and demanding playing sessions, it remained very comfortable and encouraging to play in.
In terms of breathability, the Torneo 3 also outperforms the Gel-Resolution 9, since it is not as heavily coated with rubber.
Durability
The only downside of the Torneo 3 is that it does not match the extremely high level of durability of the Gel-Resolution 9. Since it is not as heavily coated with thick rubber, it may be more prone to outer wear and tear.
However, the Torneo 3โs sole is made from high-quality rubber, and I would say its sole durability is comparable to that of the Gel-Resolution 9.
