SUMMARY

Ideal for:

The Roger Clubhouse Pro is a more affordable version of The Roger Pro 2 flagship model. As the name suggests, they’ve been designed in collaboration with former tennis legend Roger Federer. The Roger Clubhouse Pro shoes are ideal for the player who prioritizes extra comfort and support.

The Roger Clubhouse Pro shoes are constructed with high-quality materials that provide good support and comfort. However, the materials have been divided so that the inner parts of the shoe use higher quality materials than the outer parts of the shoe.

When playing with these shoes, I immediately noticed a great level of comfort. The fit was good and they did not require any break-in, which is rare in tennis shoes. In my experience, you usually have to play with tennis shoes for a few hours before they feel good on your feet. However, the Clubhouse Pro model felt just right from the first time I played with them.

Although the Clubhouse Pro is well cushioned, it still provides good support for the foot even in the fastest movements and changes of direction.

The only point of criticism is the quality-price ratio. Being a more affordable version of The Roger Pro 2 flagship model, the shoes still cost $160, which is more than the average tennis shoe. However, the Clubhouse Pro model is made with high-quality materials, which can justify the price.

The inside of the shoe is finished with high-quality materials, but the outside of the shoe feels a bit “light”. For example, the Gel Resolution 9 from Asics has a higher quality finish and costs $15-25 less.

The inner part of the Clubhouse Pro has a higher quality finish than, say, the Asicse Gel Resolution, so the question is whether you value quality materials on the inside or outside of the shoe.

Overall, The Roger Clubhouse Pro shoes are well suited for the player who prioritizes support and extra playing comfort. The high price of the shoes doesn’t seem too bad either if you’re willing to invest in comfort.

Special Features

  • Hidden CloudTec® which improves comfort
  • Helion™ superfoam which improves comfort in prolonged use
  • Speedboard® which improves stability and responsiveness
  • Open herringbone tread for traction on multiple surfaces

Material Quality 8.5/10

In general, The Roger Clubhouse Pro is made of very high-quality materials. The soles are constructed with high-quality, thick rubber, and the insoles are upholstered in comfortable, breathable fabric. However, the outer surface of the shoes is finished in a “light” way using fabric, mesh, and faux leather.

The faux leather and mesh parts feel a bit thin and like they can wear out quickly. However, the heel area is finished with a sturdy, high-quality fabric with a layer of rubber on top for extra support.

The flap of the shoe is lightweight but comfortably padded and no part of the flap rubs against the dorsum of the foot. In addition, the laces are thicker and of higher quality compared to other tennis shoe models.

Comfort 9.5/10

Cushioning: the shoes are particularly well cushioned and feel comfortable on your feet.

Stiffness: although the shoes are well padded, they are still reasonably stiff and do not flex too much in game situations.

Heel: the heel area is well padded and cushioned, with no material rubbing against the heel.

Toes: there is a good room in the toe area and the toes remain well-supported in different movements.

Prolonged use: while playing, I did not notice any pain or strain on my feet. When I took the shoes off after a playing session, my feet felt fresh.

Support And Stability 9/10

Lateral support: the shoes support the foot well in lateral movements, although the shoes may flex a little too much for my taste.

Ankle support: the ankle area is well supported and the laces are good for locking the ankle in place.

Arch support: there is neutral support at the arch of the foot, making it suitable for players with over- or under-pronation. When I played, I did not notice any soreness on the outer or inner part of the foot.

Agility 9/10

Changes of direction: although the shoes are on the heavier side, they felt surprisingly agile in the game. It was easy to change direction and the shoes didn’t drag in the game.

Speed: for their weight, the shoes felt rather fast.

Flexibility: the shoes flex well in different situations in the game and you don’t feel like your foot is pressing against the shoe.

Grip 9/10

Sole shape: the shoes have a flat sole like Wilson’s Rush Pro model.

The grip on hard ground: the shoes have a good grip, which makes it easy to move in a controlled way.

The grip in long use: moisture does not condense on the sole of the shoe, so they do not slide unnecessarily.

Breathability 9.5/10

Moisture: the shoes breathe well and the socks don’t get soaked during playing sessions.

Weight 8.5/10

The Roger Clubhouse Pro model weighs 14 ounces, so it’s a little on the heavier side. Compared to other models of the same weight, like the Asics Gel-Resolution 9, they feel slightly more agile.

The Fit 9.5/10

Size in general: the shoes fit well and allow you to wear your exact shoe size.

Width: the width of the shoe is wide enough and does not squeeze laterally. The shoes could still be a little stiffer in the middle so that they don’t flex too much in lateral movements.

Adjustability: the fit of the shoes is well adjustable via the laces.

Value For Money 9.5/10

Price range: the new The Roger Clubhouse Pros cost $160, so they fall into the more expensive category. The more expensive category is generally for the active player and the competitive player and I believe these shoes are well suited to those types of players.

Lifespan: the shoes are mostly made of high-quality materials, except for the outer surface of the shoes. In terms of the inner surfaces, the shoes can easily last over 9 months of active use, but it may be that the outer surface will wear out sooner.
