SUMMARY
Ideal for:
The A.P.C x Solution Speed FF 3 is a collaboration model between Asics and the French fashion house A.P.C., and it can be described as a designer tennis shoe. The model is based on the Solution Speed FF 3, but its features and appearance have been modified. Thus, the A.P.C version is not only a differently styled Solution Speed FF 3 but also offers a distinct playing experience.
The most significant difference compared to the base model is the considerably higher quality of materials. In my previous review, I noted that the biggest weakness of the Solution Speed FF 3 was its average material quality. This has been addressed in the A.P.C model: the upper materials are thicker and more carefully finished, and additional cushioning has been added, particularly around the ankle area.
When playing, the A.P.C model feels slightly softer yet simultaneously stiffer than the original Solution Speed FF 3. The extra cushioning around the ankle enhances comfort, but the thicker upper materials reduce the shoe’s flexibility, increasing its stiffness.
Despite this, the shoe requires no break-in period and felt comfortable from the very first use. Although the increased stiffness slightly reduces agility compared to the base model, the higher quality materials significantly improve the shoe’s durability and lifespan over time.
Overall, the A.P.C x Solution Speed FF 3 offers a higher-quality, stiffer, and somewhat more comfortable alternative to the base model. It suits players seeking more durable and supportive Solution Speed FF 3 shoes. The A.P.C model is priced approximately 80 dollars higher than the base version, costing 220 dollars.
Whether the shoes are worth the extra cost depends on the player’s priorities. For those who value top quality, agility, and style, the model provides good value for money. However, in terms of features, the shoes fall into the mid-range category among tennis footwear: they are not the most agile on the market, but neither are they the most supportive.
Special Features
- TWISTRUSS™ technology, which allows the shoe to offer greater flexibility and speed.
- Extra light and flexible Speed Sole™ outsole.
- FLYTEFOAM™ technology that improves the shoe’s take-off speed.
Material Quality 10/10

Compared to the base model, the A.P.C version features clearly higher-quality materials. Although both models are made from the same basic materials, most of the materials used in the A.P.C model are thicker and denser.
This is particularly evident on the shoe’s exterior, where the fabric and rubber components are more robust. Additionally, the tongue is covered with a more durable mesh fabric, and the shoelaces are thicker than those of the base model.
Inside the shoe, there is slightly more cushioning around the heel area, while the insole and outsole remain the same as in the base model.
Considering the price of 220 dollars, the materials of the A.P.C model are noticeably higher quality and more refined in appearance than those of the standard version.
Whether this justifies the additional cost depends on the player’s personal preferences and how much they value durability and aesthetics.
Comfort 9/10
Cushioning: compared to the base model, the A.P.C version features slightly improved cushioning in the heel area, which enhances playing comfort.
Stiffness: the shoes are stiffer compared to the base model but still agile. Thanks to their increased stiffness, they also provide better support for the foot.
Heel: the heel area feels cushioned and well-damped.
Toes: the toe area is spacious and the toes remain well-supported in different movements.
Prolonged use: while playing, I did not notice any strain or pain in the feet from prolonged use. When I took the shoes off after playing, my feet felt fresh.
Support And Stability 9/10
Lateral support: compared to the base model, the A.P.C version offers slightly better lateral support for the foot.
Ankle support: compared to the base model, the A.P.C version also provides slightly more support around the ankle, making the shoe feel more stable.
Arch support: the arch of the foot has neutral support, so it is suitable for players with over- or under-pronation.
Agility 9.5/10
Changes of direction: compared to the base model, the A.P.C version is almost equally agile and quick in direction changes.
Speed: due to the increased stiffness, the A.P.C model does not feel quite as fast as the base model
Flexibility: the shoes offer good flexibility but not quite as much as the base model, as their outer materials are thicker.
Grip 8.5/10
Sole shape: the sole of the shoe consists of two raised sections in the same way as the Court FF 3 Novak.
The grip on hard ground the shoe has moderate grip, but does not offer as much grip compared to other Asics models. However, this is not a bad thing, as the lower grip makes it easier and more natural to glide on the court, which suits a fast style of play.
The grip in long use: the grip of the shoes is slightly reduced in long use, as the sole of the shoe becomes a little more slippery as it collects dust.
Breathability 9/10
Moisture: due to the thicker materials, the A.P.C model is not quite as breathable as the base model, but its breathability is still above average.
Weight 9.5/10
Compared to the base model, the A.P.C version is slightly heavier, but it is still among the lighter options in Asics’ lineup.
- Solution Speed weight 10.58oz / 300g
- Asics A.P.C x Solution Speed 10.9oz / 310g
- Court FF 3 Novak weight 12.49oz / 405g
- Gel-Challenger 14 weight 12.35oz / 350g
The Fit 9/10
Size in general: the size of the shoe fits well, so there is no need to choose a size smaller or larger. For example, with Wilson’s shoes, I usually have to choose a size larger, as their shoe size does not match the general shoe sizes.
Width: the width of the shoe is wide enough and does not squeeze laterally.
Adjustability: The fit of the shoes can be easily adjusted, and unlike the base model, the laces do not need to be threaded all the way to the top to secure the ankle.
Value For Money 9/10
Price range: The new A.P.C x Solution Speed FF 3 shoes are priced at 220 dollars, placing them in the higher “flagship” price category. Shoes in this premium range are intended for demanding players who seek excellent quality and desginer look.
Lifespan: The shoes are made from high-quality materials, ensuring a lifespan of at least six months and potentially over a year.
