Asics crew sock
Pros & Cons
Details
Model Name: The CREW SOCK
Price: 3 pairs for $15
Length: Medium
SUMMARY
The crew sock is the basic Asics sock for tennis. It is made from lightweight materials and has light cushioning on heel, foot bed, and toe areas. The sock wraps comfortably around the foot and doesn’t squeeze or curl up during play.
The length of the sock is medium so I have to roll it down a bit to make sure it doesn’t cover the whole shin. When the socks come out of the package they seem long, but after the first wash they shrink to a suitable length.
In terms of breathability, the socks are medium, so they don’t get very damp in basic use. After longer playing sessions, depending on the shoe, the socks will collect some moisture.
In terms of durability, the shape or material of the socks does not suffer much from washing and one pair may well last more than a year of demanding use.
In my opinion, the crew sock from Asics is the best all-round tennis sock on the market, as it is affordable, comfortable and durable.
Comfort 9/10
Tightness: the socks are medium-fit and do not squeeze too much. They wrap well around the foot and support the shape of the foot.
Cushioning: there is cushioning on heel, foot bed, and toe areas. These cushions add comfort to your tennis court by absorbing the pressure between your foot and the tennis shoe.
Material quality and durability 9/10
The crew socks are mainly made of cotton and polyester.
Durability: the socks last well in use and do not tear easily. However, the cushioning and other materials in the sock will thin out over time.
Wash resistance: the socks will shrink a little after the first wash, but that’s fine with the crew socks, as I find them a little too long to begin with. After the first wash, the size of the socks remains relatively unchanged, but the material thins out over time.
Fit 9/10
Length: before the first wash, the socks are a little long for my taste, but shrink appropriately with washing. After the first wash, you don’t need to roll the socks down too much to get them short enough.
Compression: the socks fit well and do not squeeze too much in the shin area.
Breathability 8.5/10
The socks breathe well for basic use, but during longer playing sessions they will collect moisture. However, this is not a problem when playing.
Appearance 9/10
Model: the crew sock looks like a basic tennis sock. It has the right proportions and shape.
Colour options: the crew sock is currently available in black in packs of three pairs or in packs of three pairs of black, grey and white.
The model used to be available in all white in packs of three and six pairs, but has been temporarily withdrawn from the Asics’ collection.
Value for Money 9/10
The crew sock is a great value for money, as it’s affordable, comfortable and very durable.
Asics court + tennis crew sock
Pros & Cons
Details
Model Name: COURT + TENNIS CREW SOCK
Price: 1 pair $17
Length: Medium-short
SUMMARY
The Asics court + tennis crew sock is a sock designed for demanding tennis use. It is made of a thicker and softer material compared to the crew sock from Asics.
The sock wraps really well and securely around the foot. Thanks to the extra cushioning, the socks make tennis shoes feel much softer and more stable.
Even though this model is tight and specially cushioned, it doesn’t feel cramped at any point. In terms of length, the court + tennis crew sock model is shorter than the crew sock model, so there is no need to roll them down.
Breathability-wise, the socks are of above average quality, so there is no problem with moisture in basic use and even after long playing sessions the socks stay reasonably dry.
In terms of durability, these socks are designed for long-term performance. They keep their shape and size through repeated use, and the high-quality material resists wear and tear well. A single pair can last over a year in demanding use.
In my opinion, Asics court + tennis crew socks are one of the best socks for the demanding tennis player. They are very comfortable, supportive, durable and breathable. They are also just the right length. The only downside of the court + tennis crew sock model is the price, as one pair costs $17.
Comfort 9.5/10
Tightness: the socks are a bit tighter compared to the crew sock from Asics, but they don’t squeeze at any point.
Cushioning: the socks are extra cushioned in the ankle, foot bed, and toe areas. The special cushioning gives the socks more stiffness as well as comfort.
Material quality and durability 9.5/10
The socks are made from a blend of nylon, polypropylene, elastane and polyester, which improves their flexibility and durability.
Durability: the socks are very resistant to demanding use and the material does not wear out quickly.
Wash resistance: the size of the socks remains very similar despite several washings.
Fit 9.5/10
Length: the length of the socks is just right, meaning they don’t extend too far over the shin.
Compression: the socks fit well and although they are tighter than average, they are comfortable to wear.
Breathability 9.5/10
Thanks to the higher quality material, the socks have better than average breathability and stay reasonably dry even after long playing sessions.
Appearance 8.5/10
Model: the socks look a bit “heavier” on the outside due to their special cushioning, but otherwise they have the right proportions.
Colour options: the court + tennis crew sock is available in white and black in packs of one pair.
Value for Money (active players 9.5/10) (basic players 8/10)
The value for money of the Court + tennis crew sock is difficult to evaluate in general, as it depends on the level of the player.
For active tennis players, the socks are well worth the price as they offer the ultimate in comfort, support, breathability and durability.
On the other hand, socks for basic players can be on the expensive side and do not offer the same benefits as active players.
Asics quarter sock
Pros & Cons
Details
Model Name: Quarter Sock
Price: 3 pairs $14
Length: Short
SUMMARY
The Asics quarter sock is shorter sports sock model and is made of very lightweight materials. It is lightly cushioned in the heel, foot bed, and toe areas. As for the design, the sock fits well, but not as firmly as Asics’ other models.
In length, the socks are even shorter than the court + tennis crew socks and don’t need to be rolled down at all.
For breathability, the socks are a little better than average. They don’t get too damp in basic use, but they do pick up a little moisture in longer playing sessions.
The durability of the socks is average and the outer material thins and fluffs quickly with washing.
In my opinion, the quarter sock model has one of the best lengths in its range, but other features such as poor durability make it not fully suitable for tennis use.
Comfort 8/10
Tightness: the socks could be a bit tighter, as they feel a bit slippery inside a tennis shoe.
Cushioning: the socks are lightly cushioned, so they offer basic comfort.
Material quality and durability 7.5/10
The quarter socks are mainly made of cotton and polyester.
Durability: the socks’ cushioning wears out quickly during tennis use.
Wash resistance: the shape of the socks remains relatively unchanged after washing, but the surface material of the sock quickly becomes linted.
Fit 8.5/10
Length: the socks are just the right length and do not need to be rolled down.
Compression: the socks have a more relaxed compression compared to other Asics sock models.
Breathability 8.5/10
The socks breathe well in basic use and during longer playing sessions they will collect some moisture.
Appearance 8/10
Model: the sock is a bit thin and flimsy looking on the outside, but the length is good.
Colour options: the quarter sock is currently available in black in packs of three pairs or in packs of three pairs of black, grey and white.
The model used to be available in all white in packs of three and six pairs, but has been temporarily withdrawn from the Asics range.
Value for Money 7.5/10
In terms of value for money, the crew sock model is below average. It’s a shorter model and retains its shape reasonably well, but its material wears out too quickly in tennis.
